It’s time to rejoice as the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India starts with a grand inauguration ceremony on 20th November at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolin in Goa. Shahenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan and superstar Rajnikant not only graced the event but also inaugurated the golden jubilee edition of IFFI.
Official dignitaries like the Honourable I & B Minister Shri Prakash Javdekar, Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, CEO, ESG Mr. Amit Satija and Festival Director Mr. Chaitanya Prasad and Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change were also present at this star-studded evening.
Host for the evening, Karan Johar was nothing but a cherry on the cake. He welcomed the audience and tribute to Manohar Parikkar, Goa’s stalwart politician marked the beginning of the auspicious festival.
Rajnikant was felicitated with the title of Icon of the Golden Jubilee award. He accepted the award gladly amidst the applause of his dear admirers. The ace actor said that he is dedicating the award to all the producers, directors and technicians who worked with him. He even shared the honour with his fans and the people of Tamil Nadu.
Big B has been noted saying that, “I have no words to express my gratitude to IFFI for honoring me and having a retrospective of my films. Films have always been an integral part of our social life. To have a festival of this magnitude in Goa exposes the Goans to what happens in the international world and also gives them an opportunity to meet and mix with people. This is a debt on my head of your love and affection. I would not be able to repay the debt and I would not want to, because I would like to keep it forever.”
Notably, 26 feature films and 15 non feature films in Indian panorama section will be screened at the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India. It will be held from the 20th November to 28th November, 2019 at multiple venues in Panaji, Goa.
